Alwin Reamillo workshop at the MCA Sydney
Call out for expressions of interest
Museum of Contemporary Art in partnership with Kultour invite you to submit an expression of interest to attend a FREE mini helicopter lantern workshop with international artist Alwin Reamillo.
Alwin Reamillo has a history of making works that explore issues relating to cultural migration and cultural/social displacement. Reamillo has experience working with multicultural groups, at risk youth and indigenous communities.
For this project Reamillos will collaborate with local communities to create mini helicopter lanterns. During these workshops participants will have the opportunity to share their own stories. The lanterns will then be exhibited alongside Reamillo's large scale sculpture, 'Thuringowa Helicopter ' as part of the MCA exhibition Making IT New: Focus on Contemporary Australian Art 10 September - 11 November 2009.

Diafrix workshop at BEMAC
Diafrix have established themselves over the last six years as one of Australia’s most exciting and original live acts. There’s no recycled funk here - it’s 100% original soul, dancehall and reggae-infused hip hop.

Participants will have the chance to learn how to develop their own poetry - hip hop style, and beat boxing. There will also be an information session on the underground vs. commercial scenes.

In association with ACMI, Kultour is pleased to present the Melbourne screening of In This Together, a curated video series exploring Arabness from a broad social, political and religious spectrum, aiming to address (mis)representations of Arab culture through film.
Collected over a three year period, the works cross a range of genres, showcasing stories from Arabic speaking cultures in Australia, Canada and Lebanon. This exhibition favours a pluralistic approach to conflict resolution, presenting a diversity of opinions about the Arab world and diaspora.
In This Together aims to address the misrepresentations of Arab culture by giving exposure to alternative representations of Arab culture, Arab commentary and self-representation to mainstream Australia.
The screening will be followed by a Q+A session with curator Khaled Sabsabi

Way Out West- touring NT and QLD
Way Out West is a six piece group with a unique and alluring sound that blends Vietnamese and African influences with jazz in a surprising and vibrant manner.
The repertoire extends the dialogue with notions of Australian cultural identity that has inspired the music of Way Out West since its inception. It engages with a range of communities, taking audiences on a musical journey through diverse musical terrain presented in an accessible manner that encourages new ways of listening.
This tour has been developed in partnership with one of Kultour’s Victorian Company Members, Footscray Community Arts Centre.
